Touchet Valley Trail survey

It’s long been a desire to have a trail connecting Dayton and Waitsburg.  Thanks in large part to grants from the National Park Service and WSDOT, we are now in the planning stages and want your input!  Please take a moment to fill out our trail survey, visit our Touchet Valley Trail, and like and follow us on Facebook for frequent updates.  There will be numerous opportunities for public input throughout the process – we hope you’ll participate in all of them!

A paved trail between Dayton and Waitsburg would be my preference. It would accommodate all forms of bicycles, allow both runners and walkers to traverse on a safe, consistent surface. There would be ample opportunities to access the river (if that route were chosen). As example, the path around Seattle’s Green Lake has multiple lanes for foot traffic and wheeled traffic. A series of signs suggesting trail etiquette might be posted (e.g. signaling with voice or other means that a bicycle is approaching and about to pass pedestrian traffic, etc.)

I have some questions/concerns regarding the trail. I would like bikers to have safer passage I know I would incur potential liability, I don’t if I would be required to buy addition insurance to protect our family. Other concerns include trash, human and animal waste and slower moving autos trying to look at the trail users or assisting as slow support And/cars. I’ll stop by next week

Hi JoAnn! Thank you for the feedback. Your concerns are shared by other adjacent landowners, and we are working hard throughout the planning process to address all of them. I look forward to talking with you in more detail when you stop by! – Kathryn Witherington
